Art Deco (Design)

Art Deco was introduced in the year 1920. The designs are related to geometric shapes were the style is simple with basic shapes. The items are labelled as luxury and wealth. There are a lot of paintings and sculptures that signify the time of Art Deco; like the Chrysler building in New York City designed by William Van Alen in 1930.

Tamara De Lempicka, one of the most famous Art Deco artists of that time, by the age of 14 started attending school in Switzerland. She used to live with her auntie which had her house decorated in fine French décor where the artist got the idea how she wanted to develop her ideas. When she grew up, by that time she painted the rich, the successful and also the renowned. Her work helped her get on top of society making her famous with other people and also good in finance statements. Then she moved to America were she had the opportunity to be a Hollywood artist; accompanied by her second husband. When the world war ended, she went back to France and re-opened her old studio and decorated it in the rococo style. After years passed, she moved to Mexico and started telling herself that her beauty is all lost and that is soon to end. She died in her sleep on March 18th 1980 with the company of her daughter                                                        Kizette by her side.

Pop Art (Design)

Pop art was created in the 1950s. It was first included in comics were the pictures told the stories. After some years, artist began to inspire themselves and started doing large painting of famous people like – Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Michael Jackson.

One of the most famous artists that presented pop art to the society was Andy Warhol. He was born in 1923 and passed away in 1987; His paintings were mostly remembered and his most popular were on the Campbell’s soup cans.

The process wasn't that easy to paint them directly on the canvas, therefore it was done with the process of silk screening. Basically you have a design divided in different stencils and every design stencil has its own solid colour the brighter the better. Than you start one by one adding the colour and leaving it about 5-10 minutes to dry and remove it so you’ll have a Sharpe edge and then you continue doing it with the other stencils.

Pop Art is becoming rather famous once again in our social life, were its also being used in posters; adverts; clothing and magazines. You can say that’s because history repeats itself.

Romanticism (Art)

This period began in the late eighteenth century and continued developing to the nineteenth century. This periodic time gave the people different thoughts, made them feel different emotions and have different imaginations.

In this painting called the 'Wanderer above the sea of fog' done by Caspar David Friedrich you can see how the artist expressed himself; he may have had some thoughts that were troubling him or he wanted to be alone up in the mountains surrounded with nature. The scene also gives you a hint that the season is winter due to the colours used in the background which are light blue and light purple, even from the clothes that the person is wearing and the fog between the mountains. In my opinion I like how he kept the figure in the middle of the painting using a triangular shape to the corners of the canvas there for making the person the focal point. He is also standing on top of a rock so he is giving the message that he’s not afraid of heights and leading himself to bravery.
